9 Habits That Will Help You Glow Up This Summer

Hello friends!!! I am a sucker for self improvement, so today I’m bringing you some realistic ways to glow up this summer. I mean, yes, you could get your brows done and self tan, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Do what’s going to make you feel good! I just feel like glow up videos that suggest this always leave me feeling worse about myself after the creator goes through all of these expensive steps and lectures viewers about facial hair all while telling you how to achieve “natural beauty.” Anyway, without further ado, here’s “9 habits that will help you glow up this summer!”

Create routines

Routines will help you set these habits into your everyday lives. Bookending your day with routines can help you make the most of your day! Implanting tasks, like putting on sunscreen into your morning routine, can make these tasks into habits. If you need inspiration, you can check out my night routine post!

Compliment yourself

I know you don’t say this enough so I’m going to for you: YOU ARE AMAZING! Like, seriously, I don’t know you, but I’d bet you’re a pretty cool human. I hope you know that. This can be a hard habit to start, but it’s worth it.Find one thing that you love about yourself everyday and repeat it while looking in the mirror, doing so will make you more confident and reinstate your self worth. What’s one thing that you love about yourself? Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you love yourself and that aspect of yourself. If you feel comfortable doing so, tell me what you love about yourself in the comments!

Drink water

Time in the sun gives us great tanlines, but can also make us dehydrated. Ahh yes, dry skin and chapped lips, I know them well… Not only will being sufficiently hydrated rid you of these things, but I have multiple friends that swear drinking a gallon of water a day will help clear your skin (AND make it glowly), as well as help lose weight. Oddly enough, drinking water is a hassle! If you’re just not motivated to drink water, I recommend making it exciting. You can do this by adding fruit, juices, and seeds to your sweater to make it taste splendid! Putting it in a mason jar with a reusable straw is also a great way to get yourself to sip on water throughout the day.

Meal prep

If you’ve read any of my food related posts, you may know that I’m a huge advocate for food prepping. Take a few hours to whip up some of your favorite treats! If you want to start eating healthier, find alternative recipes for your favorite foods, like granola, and make a batch on your own. Store bought granolas, for example, can have some funky ingredients, but you can make your own that will be much better for you! Overall, food prepping is fun and will help you put more nutrient dense foods into your body as well as save you some money. Afterall, you’re less likely to have ramen for the tenth day in the row (no shame), if you have some yummy stir-fry rice waiting for you in the fridge.

Practice self care

Take some time for yourself! It’s summer, we are all swimming in extra time, why not dedicate it to Y-O-U? We often think of self care as a spa day, or splurging on shoes, but it can be so much more! Simple things like reading a book or Prioritizing yourself and your needs will help you realize your value and boost your confidence, and some of the activities, like face masks, will add to that by giving your skin a little extra love. (Psst… I have a HUGE self care day guide post if you’re looking to amp up your self care game…)

Use affirmations

Affirmations are key! The human mind is so interesting and intricate, for it cannot determine the difference between reality and your imagination. That’s why affirmations are so helpful, if you repeat something enough, you’ll start to believe it and act on it. Try repeating simple affirmations twice a day. They can be phases like “I am beautiful,” “People are attracted to me,” and “I am living my best life.” Phrases like these will truly make you feel beautiful and confident – you are making your dreams subconsciously! People will notice the difference in your personality, and you’ll become happier!

Exercise

Sorry, but I just had to include this one! Exercising can help you clear your mind and make you happier! It doesn’t have to be anything intense – d whatever will make you feel good! Try different activities, like yoga, walking, or weightlifting! I’ve noticed that strength training has really improved my relationship with my body. This habit will help you both mentally and physically!

Spend time outside

According to the CDC, “Spending time outdoors can improve overall health and wellness. Benefits of being outside include decreased stress, and increased happiness and vitamin D . Not only that, but it’ll help you with your summer tan! So, get outside! Go hiking, swimming, eat lunch, or read in your backyard. Be sure to wear sunscreen!!

Surround yourself with people and things that make you feel good

Gather and exert good vibes. You decide who and what gets your time; don’t let the things that get you down keep you down! Cut ties with any toxic friends or peers to make room for your loving and supportive friends (and new ones to come)! If you don’t like the vibes you give off, you can fix it! Wear what you actually want to wear, and say and do what you actually want to! You’ll become happier and people will become more attracted to you!

I hope you found these tasks manageable and implement them into your life! It really is crazy how much difference the little things make. Before I leave you, I just want to say that you definitely should not feel pressured to return to school with an amazing glow-up. We often do things with others in mind, and that should be different – do things for yourself! Thank you so so much for reading, and good luck with your glow up!!!

  5. These are some good tips! I need to get more exercise. In fact, I’m probably going to go out for a walk this afternoon. I’ve been slacking with exercise recently and it really doesn’t make me feel any better! Thank you for the reminder. Also, what is your Pinterest so I can check it out? x

      1. This morning I did a bit of yoga, and I’ve also been getting out for walks more! They’re my preferred exercise. It’s a shame school shut because I’d otherwise be playing cricket this summer 😥 x
